We’ve said it before, that at SendThisFile our company culture doesn’t always mirror that of other software companies. We’re less bean bag chairs and foosball tables, and more “families first.” And we don’t mind occasionally putting other families first, when the cause is right. And helping put the finishing touches on a new home in Wichita’s Habitat for Humanity Rock the Block effort is one of the best causes out there.
Rock the Block is a Habitat project focused on beautifying Wichita’s A. Price Woodard neighborhood. The effort started with neighborhood cleanup and is now building new safe, affordable housing in vacant lots and doing rehabilitation on other houses in the neighborhood.
The SendThisFile team went out early on a Saturday in May, under looming gray clouds. We had to dodge puddles to get there, but the rain didn’t keep us away. All the rain out of doors made it a great day to spend indoors, with buckets, rollers and paint brushes. We were happy to work alongside the future homeowner as we painted the walls of the house that he’ll occupy with this three young sons, ages 2, 4 and 10.
Thanks to Scott, Dan, Audrey, Carreen, Mitch and Aaron (pictured above) for contributing their time to such a positive cause, and to Rick for rallying us and making sure we were registered and prepared. I think we all had a great time working alongside our friends and neighbors.
We’ve done it before, and we look forward to working with Wichita’s Habitat for Humanity again in the future.
